How I started

I had no history of touring motorcycling in any respect. I have only ever been on a motorbike trip longer than 2 days, and that alone.

However, I noticed Andor Bezsnei's adventure motorbike trip around the world on YouTube, and I also thought how nice it would be to go to Asia by motorbike one day. But as I had no experience of either touring or off-road biking, I decided to do a test ride first.

The first day of the test ride led me to Attila Urbán's Nagyenduro training, and in the evening I stayed at the horse farm. From there I headed for Bosnia to gain more experience in practice.

Well, this trial run lasted for more than a year, limited only by the travel ban caused by the Coronavirus.

Equipment

When I set off, I didn't take anything in preparation. Well, I did take 2 side boxes for the motorbike, which I then packed what I had. My concept was that I would not spend anything unnecessarily unless I had to. When I can base it on my own experience I'll see what I really need.

I tried to keep my luggage as minimal as possible. Both in terms of size and weight. I gave up everything that I didn't need, I kept efficiency rather than comfort in mind, constantly sorting my gear. I let go of things that I didn't need for a long time, and tried to get new things that could perform several functions at once, or at least were smaller and lighter than the previous ones.

Misconceptions

I'm just quietly noting, I started out with a simple decathlon tent that I'd been slinging at festivals for 5 years, in my first (and not waterproof) biker suit of my life, which was a plain street kit and I'd been skinning it for 7 years. Interestingly, I've also made it from Turkey to Norway in these.

I believe that getting on a long motorcycle ride is not about whether you can buy the latest Goretex touring gear or what super-sonic accessories you've got to tune up your bike with at least 1000cc. If you make the decision in your head, sooner or later it will all come together.

The best preparation for your trek is to start today, you can be sure of that!
